Newcomer Conversation

Community Dinners
First Sunday of Every Month | 5pm | Community Room
The first Sunday of each month, First Parish volunteers prepare and serve a free dinner in a gracious atmosphere to our community at large. We encourage people in all circumstances to enjoy our hospitality, including members and friends of First Parish. Our tables are set with real china, flatware, and flowers. Volunteers are always needed to prepare the meal (12:00-4:30) as well as to serve and clean-up after the meal (4:30-7). We serve dinner at 5pm to about 40 or more people each month, and provide some take-home meals as well. Originally, we received support from the Wayside Food Program. Starting in 2016, we continued to provide Community Dinners thanks to generous contributions from the First Parish budget and local businesses. Standard Baking Company supplies their award-winning bread, the Portland Food Co-Op provides a $100 gift certificate each month for fresh vegetables and other food supplies, and we receive locally-caught fish from the Maine Coast Fishermen’s Association.
